In re-imagining my life I encouraged my unconscious mind to play an important role. Capturing and recording lucid dreams has been a primary practice, in not only the acknowledgement but also the discovery of illness. Due to excellent health and disability coverage, I had the good fortune to be able to stop my life in its tracks when I was diagnosed. I made time for the solitary pursuit of spiritual reverie, long, silent hours of simply finding my way back to my spiritual center, sorting beliefs and visualizing myself as disease free. The trick was trying to stay unattached to outcome at the same time.

As I was being saturated with love and care, I rehearsed letting go of all known connections in order to face my death. The only way I knew to manage this fathomless world was to ritualize or formulize my states of mind and create a mythology of signs and symbols. Some call this magical thinking. I call it the power of imagination to heal and the creative incorporation of overwhelming knowledge.
